Davide Barrera and Werner Raub successful in NWO Open Competition

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) have awarded Davide Barrera and Werner Raub funding for their project proposal in the NWO Social Sciences (MaGW) Open Competition.

The three-year postdoc project is entitled The Feasibility of Cooperation under Various Sanctioning Institutions. Out of a total of 60 applications, 24 have been awarded.

Short abstract of the project:
In recent years, many studies focused on the role of institutions providing selective incentives to support cooperation in public good dilemmas. In this proposal, we identify four aspects related to this topic that have received considerably less attention: the form of the sanctioning institution (i.e., costly fines vs. exclusion from the group), the decision rule applied by the institution (collective vs. individual), the effects of sanctioning institutions on group solidarity, and the information about the contribution of other group members that is available to the individual. We propose a new set of experiments specifically designed to investigate these four aspects.
