Vidi grant for Frank van Tubergen
Frank van Tubergen (ICS/Utrecht) has been granted € 800.000 for his proposal 'Immigrants, Natives and the Occupational Career: Do Social Contacts Matter?' by the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). In the coming five years Frank van Tubergen will investigate de development of intraethnic and interethnic contacts of natives and various immigrant groups, and study the economic returns to these ties. His work will contribute to the literature by developing and applying a multiple group - multiple setting design, and by following people over time. Social contacts between members of different ethnic groups will be studied in a variety of social settings, including the neighborhood, the workplace, in voluntary organizations and at home. Panel data will be used to test hypotheses in a more rigorous way. Of the 95 submitted proposals in the MaGW field, 15 proposals received funding.
