Karien Dekker (ICS/Utrecht) has been granted €250.000 for her proposal 'Neighbourhood Deprivation, Exit, and Voice: Searching for Mechanisms of Decline' by the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
In the coming three years Karien Dekker will investigate the relation between residential behaviour and neighbourhood development. What do residents do when the situation in the neighbourhood declines? Who leaves, who waits and does nothing, and who takes action to improve the situation? Specific attention is paid to the impact of the ethnic composition of the neighbourhood on the reactions of residents. Of the 225 submitted proposals in the MaGW field, 29 proposals received funding.
