Previous research on determinants of cultural participation has shown that the effects of education are often overestimated and hard to explain as instruction effects. However, effects of arts education on cultural participation in later life have been found in earlier research. The evidence deals nevertheless with long term effects and uses retrospective data. The aim of this project is to test whether and how arts education affects cultural participation during and after school and to specify conditions under which arts education is more effective. Panel data will be collected among students of secondary education while they are still at school and shortly afterwards.
