The second module is entitled Writing a Research Proposal and a First Paper. This module focuses on how to design a research project and write a research proposal for one's own project. The various parts of an adequate research proposal are dealt with consecutively: writing an introduction, presenting the research problem and its theoretical background, providing a theory sketch as a first solution to the problem at hand, and, finally, a description of the data and methods to be used in the test of the hypotheses yet to be developed. Throughout the module, students receive feedback and comments on their own evolving research proposal and learn how to respond to and constructively use feedback and comments in revising own work. Again, the final version of the research proposal will be submitted to the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Students likewise receive training in skills needed for writing a research paper.
The concluding module is a condensed version of the previous course The Integration of Explanatory Models with Models of Analysis and Measurement that includes the masterclass and clinic with an internationally renowned expert in the social sciences.
